Response To Americas Altered States Essays - Psychiatric Diagnosis

Reaction To Americas Altered States Reaction to America's Altered States Joshua Wolf Shenk brings various provocative contentions up in this paper managing the way of life of medications in America. He dismisses the simple responses to inquiries of medication misuse and looks for more profound philosophical importance. His primary theory raises an intriguing point: America is dependent on both unlawful and lawful medications. Shenk then endeavors to deliver questions identifying with this point. For what reason are Americans so reliant on drugs? What makes a medication positive or negative? Shenk comes to no clear end results, yet carries numerous troublesome inquiries to the surface. Americans must recognize the philosophical reasons of why we want the impacts drugs produce, so as to frame a contemplated assessment on the medication issue of this nation. It is hard to respond to a paper with such a large number of various focuses, yet generally, I concur that America is dependent on a wide range of medications. I likewise feel this is an issue, which doesn't have any simple answers. The economy has a great deal to do with expanding our reliance on drugs. The inquiries at the base of this ethical problem are not effectively replied. For what reason do people long for escape from themselves? Is it in light of the absence of satisfaction present day society gives? Or on the other hand is it part of human instinct, autonomous of time or spot? I don't have the responses to these inquiries, yet I do accept that scanning for this departure in drugs isn't right. Reliance on a concoction of any sort is inconvenient to one's prosperity. That is the reason I avoid most medications in any conditions. They essentially do not merit wrecking myself for the transient advantages. Marketing Consumer Behaviour Consumer Preservation

Question: Portray about the Marketing Consumer Behavior for Consumer Preservation. Answer: Presentation Improving on the customer conduct has become a typical subject for some associations. The contention on the side of the customer conduct is easy to comprehend. Placated buyers are accounted for to have higher purchaser safeguarding rates, devote a bigger portion of their gathering paying out to the firm, as they are probably going to prescribe others to end up being the customers of the business (Beckett, Hewer Howcroft, 2000). To screen the general execution and the guide for development, the organization by and large rely upon the shopper reaction. The criticism is gotten by means of the customer suppositions that contain the proportions of fulfillment, the repurchase aim just as through the verbal. The examination done by numerous organizations is structured at researching on the much of the time utilized consumer loyalty measurements just as the progressive client practices (Belz Peattie, 2009) .On the client measurements, it looks on the parameters like consumer loyalty, client desire, client esteem and the repurchase goal. The customer reaction idea to the commercial center disappointment has essentially impacted the wonders like the brand dedication and the repurchase plans. For the retailers, it has been a different intrigue in light of the fact that the retail foundation is generally a road for the grievances of the buyers (East, Wright Vanhuele, 2013). This report investigates on the correlation of the charge mentalities from the gathering grouping as indicated by Singh article and my situational reaction from the previous section A. Further, coordinating on close to home reaction to the circumstance to the portrayal of Singh. The report additionally clarifies the purchaser conduct hypothesis to portray the job of desires, fulfillment, and objection utilizing the shopper conduct distinguished. Do you think your protest conduct is more affected by your perspectives, convictions and conclusions in the table above or by the particular circumstance? Why I think the perspective like mentalities, convictions and suppositions impacts the objection conduct. The explanation am stating this on the grounds that to buy something you need to like the item relies upon your demeanor every now and then. In addition, its on what you have confidence in, if the item isn't acceptable you won't obtain it, and your sentiment with respect to a specific item matters as opposed to others. These components significantly impact on the customer conduct instead of a given circumstance. For instance, you can't buy something on the grounds that your companions or relative sentiment on that item is acceptable. Contrast your reactions and an individual who responded distinctively to you. What highlights did they select in their table? For what reason would they say they are distinctive to you? My companions reaction to grievance was not the same as mine. I have given her reaction on the table underneath. On a portion of her reaction they are like what I reacted. Grumbling ATTITUDES Purchaser Alienation Most organizations care nothing at about the client. Concur Oppose this idea Individual Norms I frequently whine when Im disappointed with business or items since I feel it is my obligation to do as such. Concur Oppose this idea Social Benefits By submitting questions about unsuitable items, over the long haul the nature of items will improve. Concur Oppose this idea Anticipation Voice Expecting you whined about the circumstance in point 1 above, how likely is it that the association would take care of your concern and give better help to you later on? Likely Improbable Hope Private Accepting you revealed the circumstance in guide 1 toward your companions (who utilize a similar association), how likely is it that your companions would quit utilizing that association inside and out? Likely Improbable Hope Third Party Accepting you announced the circumstance in guide 1 toward a purchaser office, for example, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), how likely is it that the ACCC would make the mechanics shop deal with your concern? Likely Improbable Worth Voice How likely is it that you would grumble to the association in point 1 in the event that you were almost certain the association would tackle your concern and give better help later on? Likely Improbable Underneath table demonstrates her reaction to the circumstance 1 HER RESPONSE A B Significance of the circumstance High Low Did you feel humiliated? Truly No Have you at any point griped already to an association? Indeed No Was it simple to grumble to the supplier this time? Indeed No Was there a ton in question (money related? Social? Wellbeing?) Indeed No What sort of individual right? I support what I accept is correct I am not the sort to gripe Do you figure the organization ought to have dealt with things better Truly No Were you with family/companions who didnt need you to gripe No Indeed Did you grumble? Indeed No The reaction were distinctive in my circumstance since I respond contrastingly on different circumstance from my companion for instance reaction in the event that I had whined past to me I have never grumbled to an association however to her she has done so a few time. Its everything about her shopper conduct which is not the same as mine. 5i) Comparison of the case mentalities to the bunch gathering to Singh As per Singh, he has four characterizations of the gathering bunching of an individual dependent on the case these are passives, voicers, irates, and activists. These characterizations will be contrasted with the objections demeanor reacted from the past circumstance 1 and figured out which I fall at. Inactive bunch gathering of shoppers speaks to those disappointed and whose aim to grumble are beneath normal on the part of voicing objection to the suppliers of the disappointing assistance. On this sort of gathering, they are least to make any move, as they have all the earmarks of being predictable with the non-whiners section (Quester, Neal, Pettigrew, Grimmer, Davis Hawkins, 2007). Correlation of this is submitted on my question demeanor on the estimation of the voice result I specified that I would probably grumble to the association to tackle my concern and offer a superior support later on. This case shows am the person whose goal to grumble the part of voice objection. Subsequently, I can't bomb in this gathering of individuals. The subsequent bunch is the gathering of the voicers. On this gathering of people are described malcontented clients who unquestionably are underneath the normal on close to home just as outsiders activities. Much more particularly the individuals have next to no compelling reason to take an interest in the negative switch support (Wierenga, van Tilburg, Grunert, Steenkamp Wedel, 2012). By the by, they might be biggest on the voice component, meaning that the client decidedly complaints to the specialist co-op to getting the correct .Comparison to this is my mentality to fight reaction on the estimation of private viewpoint showed that I would almost certainly make reference to the circumstance to my companions who might likewise quit utilizing the association inside and out. Further reaction to the estimation of the outsider methods I would most likely report the occurrence to the shopper office with the goal that the association will change the circumstance. This along these lines shows I don't fall under this class as the shoppers are underneath normal on close to home and the outsider activities. The following gathering bunch is the irates, which speak to the aggravated purchasers who appear better than expected on close to home reactions just as better than expected tendency to dissent straightforwardly to the vender. The clients not simply whine legitimately to the specialist co-ops yet also change support. In any case, the buyers are not as liable to hold onto any sort of outsider activities. Correlation with the response I gave on the protest disposition, I may probably make a move to the outsider and report the episode to shopper office. Further, on the worth protection, I would likely make reference to companions and family members who might prevent utilizing the administration from the association. I would not fit into the gathering as a result of a part of significant worth gathering; the people in the gathering are more averse to make outsider move, which is in opposition to me. The last bunch is the activists who speak to disappointed customer who are highlighted by all the above perspectives all the more so griping to the outsiders. They look somewhat like the thought of the customer extremist. Correlation with this gathering I show the qualities in all the above measurements. Resemble an extremist particularly when I reacted I likely report the frequency to the buyer office (Gunter Furnham, 2014). Further, when I didn't get the request for the dress, I finished from the suppliers messages, web based life post, and messages. Extra, I would almost certainly make reference to the circumstance to the companions and family members. This show is happy to go over the edge all together the retailer to review on my issue. ii) Response to the circumstance matches with the Singhs portrayal of my bunch My reaction to the circumstance coordinated the portrayal giving by Singhs on the way that it gripes mentalities showed looked like the circumstance that was given from the investigation (Solomon, 2014). It investigated on how the disappointed client appeared on changed measurements like the outsider, and the private activities. Job of desire, fulfillment and grievances utilizing conduct hypothesis Buyer fulfillment is the focal part in the cutting edge advertising thought and practices. On the idea, it accentuates on conveying of the shoppers and acquire a decent return for the association (Evans, Jamal Foxall, 2006). In this manner, the general personal satisfaction is relied upon to be improved. The shopper conduct hypothesis that would be utilized is the

12 Signs You May Have an Anxiety Disorder

12 Signs You May Have an Anxiety Disorder It was Monday, the weekend was over. This was the big day. Cindy’s big day. Her day to shine. It was the day she would win her company the tender they had been eyeing. She was well prepared. Her presentation was all memorized and her charts and tables available through her flash drive. She understood the importance of using visuals during presentations. Before leaving her office, she checks to confirm that she carried everything.Laptop? Check. Flash drive? Check. Notes (just in case)? Check. All was well. The driver pulls off the kerb and Cindy is on her way to meet her client. She pictures herself making the presentation. Will the procurement director be alone? Will the finance director be part of the team? What if the president of the firm attends as well? She has to impress. Does her dress look executive? Did she choose the right color? Is it too short? Cindy’s heart is racing. How will she start the presentation if the president attends? Are the figures she has indicated for Retu rn on Investment accurate?Of course they are. Her finance team worked on them and she confirmed everything. All the same, she decides to confirm. She pulls out her laptop and plugs the flash drive. She needs to check those figures again. Anyway, does it harm to confirm? At least she will be confident that all is fine, won’t she?It is very normal to be tense and nervous before an important engagement. For example before a job interview, meeting your girlfriend’s parents for the first time, going on your first date or just your first day at work. There are times when the nervousness starts consuming you to the point of being unsure about something you just confirmed. In this case, it may be a sign of an anxiety disorder. This is what Cindy was going through.WHAT IS AN ANXIETY DISORDER?An anxiety disorder is a mental health condition which is characterized by feelings of fear, worry and anxiety. These feelings are usually strong enough to interfere with your daily activities. You wo rry about a future event which you are not sure how best to handle.Or you just feel incapable of managing it.Although you can normally have these feelings and control them, that is not the case when you are suffering from an anxiety disorder. With an anxiety disorder, the feelings are intense, overwhelming and can stop you from performing your normal duties.TYPES OF ANXIETY DISORDERSAnxiety disorders are a class of mental conditions which manifest in different ways. Some of these anxiety disorders have symptoms which overlap. As such, you may show signs of a particular disorder but after talking to your doctor, realize that you actually have a different disorder.Anxiety disorders are not always easy to accurately diagnose. But openly talking to your doctor and him possibly carrying out some examinations will lead to the right diagnosis.Below we discuss the different types of anxiety disorders.Generalized anxiety disorderYou will be diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) i f you are excessively anxious and worried about everyday life events. You worry about everything from money, health, work to family. These worries are usually either unrealistic or exaggerated such that they do not align with the reality of the situation. An accurate diagnosis is given when you worry more often than not for a duration of at least six months.Although in an ideal situation you should be able to control your worry, you find this to be impossible. Thus your life becomes a continuous cycle of worry. You always anticipate negative outcomes and see the worst possibilities coming to pass.GAD affects 6.8 million American adults annually with women being twice as likely as men to be affected. With many negative thoughts clouding your mind, it becomes difficult to even go through the day. It is possible that you may later on realize that your fears were exaggerated. Unfortunately, this may not register solidly enough to enable you control your thoughts.Panic disorderThis disorde r is characterized by reoccurring panic attacks. The panic attacks occur suddenly and without warning. And since you do not know when the next one will come, you live with a fearful anticipation of it.This makes you afraid of going to some places, especially if you have experienced a panic attack before while there.A panic disorder can greatly interfere with your life as you seek to avoid social activities or even responsibilities. You may for example avoid making a presentation which is part of your job because the last time you did it, you suffered a panic attack. It is estimated that 1.5-4% of the general public suffer from panic disorder. Although it mostly affects people from early adulthood, children also suffer from panic disorder.Obsessive compulsory disorder (OCD)This condition affects your mind and makes you keep certain persistent thoughts of the need to repeat certain actions. The thoughts are what are referred to as obsessions, in that you cannot stop thinking about speci fic things. You become preoccupied with those thoughts until they form your basis of action. As the thoughts continue, the actions become your habits, thus forming the compulsions. These are the things you do everydayâ€"or very oftenâ€"even without questioning the rationale.OCD is a problem because the obsessions and compulsions tie you up to a lifestyle of distress. For example, you may have worrisome thoughts about how contaminated your environment is. Since you do not want to be infected, you have to perform an action so as to stay safe. The compulsion then becomes an excessive washing of your hands and kitchen as many times as possible to guarantee cleanliness. You may also have disturbing thoughts and mental images about the security of your home. To guarantee safety as you leave, you lock your house and then confirm that you have done it well. As you walk from your door, you feel the urge to just confirm one final time that the lock is intact. After this confirmation, you may feel the need to check your windows and even confirm that the space between the door and the floor is not big enough for someone to slip something through. In all these, your mind paints images of possible security breaches. In reality, your neighborhood may be adequately safe. More than that, as you perform these checks, you are definitely running out of time for your meetings or work.Specific phobiasPhobias are intense fears. The kind of fears that can literally stop you from going to a place or doing something for fear of what may happen. One common fear is the fear of heights, also known as acrophobia. If you are suffering from an anxiety disorder, you have other fears which interfere with your normal life. These stop you from going to places you should go to or doing things you are supposed to do.An example is agoraphobia, the fear of being in places where you think escape or finding help may not be possible. You therefore avoid such places since they may trigger panic attacks. For you to comfortably go to such places, you will often need the company of someone else so as to get the assurance of safety.Another phobia is glossophobia, the fear of public speaking. You may have had a bad experience before or you simply cannot bring yourself to speak in public. Although many people have this fear, the difference for you is that you are certain of suffering a panic attack, something you have to avoid.Check out the below video to get some tips for overcoming glossophobia. Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)PTSD can be debilitating as it causes your mind to re-live past traumatic events. The cause is a past event which you either experienced personally or witnessed. This event registered in your mind as something which you should never experience again. It may be an involvement in a car accident. To avoid such an event from happening again, you decided never to drive a car. Or be driven but never to sit at the front. Still, any signs of a potential accident like the sc reeching of brakes, can send you into an anxiety attack.Another cause of PTSD can be the death of a close relative. For example, you probably lost one of your children due to an illness. The next time someone in your family becomes sick, it will be sufficient to trigger an anxiety attack. You will instantly remember the loss of your other child and see the death occurring again in this other family member.Social anxiety disorderThis is also called social phobia. It is the fear of the everyday social interactions that happen in life. You become fearful of being judged by others or wrongly evaluated. If having social anxiety disorder, then you will generally be afraid of what others will think about you. What they will think of your appearance, the words you use, what will happen if you stumble over words, whether you will be viewed as boring etc.As a result, you will avoid every kind of social event so as to stay away from the possible judgment from others.Other fears which you may hav e are being afraid of embarrassment and humiliation. You may also be afraid of being introduced to someone or being watched while doing something.SIGNS OF AN ANXIETY DISORDERAny of the above anxiety disorders can affect you. Although some people may be at higher risk, environmental conditions can make everyone susceptible. One of the factors that can lead to some of these is your upbringing. If you never had an opportunity to interact with people and did not learn how to express yourself well, you may have a problem doing so as an adult. There are instances where you may feel nervous yet you are not suffering from an anxiety disorder. An example is when you are approached by the person you have a crush on. You may feel too shy to even look at them in the eye. You may even be unable to speak.Does this mean you have an anxiety disorder?Shyness is just a feeling of awkwardness or apprehension and goes away as soon as you get to know the other person. On the other hand, anxiety disorders are characterized by symptoms which occur more than once. As a result you do whatever you can to try and avoid them.Even feelings of nervousness are common among people, especially when about to do something they don’t usually do. Still, that does not qualify them to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder.Below are 12 signs you can use to diagnose yourself and know whether you could be having an anxiety disorder.1. Excessive worryWorry is normal for everyone. The difference when it comes to anxiety disorders is that it is too much. This worry is also completely unexplainable in rational ways.If you find yourself worrying about virtually everything, then chances are that you have an anxiety disorder. You will usually be worried about your health, work, family, traffic and everything else. All this with a lot of exaggeration. This excess worry can have effects beyond your mind.Whereas it’s possible to worry then come up with a way to prevent the worrying situation from either happe ning or escalating, you are not able to do this. For you, the preferred solution is usually to avoid facing the situation. If you have to face it, then you’ll be extra careful as you approach it.This leads to a huge impact on the way you live your life. In an attempt to avoid worrying situations, you end up avoiding many activities, even responsibilities. The downside of this is that you reduce your chances of interacting with people, thus keeping yourself from facing and dealing with the underlying fear.If you choose to approach the situation with extra care, then you put too much focus on the potential mistakes that could happen and end up being consumed by them. When mistakes occur, your fears haunt you, confirming that you should not have gotten into the situation in the first place. This makes you more inclined to avoid similar situations in the future.2. Chronic indigestionAnxiety, as a condition affecting the mind, has far-reaching effects. Not only does it affect your mood b ut also your digestive processes. The indigestion problem will typically start in your mouth, exactly where digestion starts. Since you are likely to be eating fast when feeling tense, you will not have chewed your food properly. As this food goes down your gut, several symptoms of indigestion may occur, including bloating and general digestion discomfort. At the same time, the neurotransmitter serotonin plays an important role in digestion. Known to be one of the feel-good hormones, serotonin is also essential in the regulation of intestinal movements. When you have an anxiety disorder, serotonin levels are low. And a deficiency in serotonin causes digestion problems, irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, among other health disorders. From the below video, you will learn more about indigestion caused by anxiety and some ways to manage the problem. 3. Sleep problemsYou can only sleep well if your mind is at peace. If you have any anxiety disorder, your mind cannot enjoy peaceful times. A t least in most cases. Your mind simply has too much to think about. With an anxiety disorder, your mind will normally be very active at night, just as it was during the day, if not more. You will remember all the things which went wrong and start working on solutions. This is in anticipation of similar or worse problems which you feel will come up the following day.You may find that you have the energy to perform tasks and so you stay awake some more. If you go to bed, you may keep tossing and turning instead of sleeping. This is because your mind is trying to figure out how to avoid a repeat of the uncomfortable situations which caused you anxiety today. This leads to activity in your brain at a time when your circadian rhythm indicates that it’s time to sleep. Sleep is important for the replenishment of worn out body tissues to enable you be ready to carry out the necessary activities the following day.Lack of sleep or having it in irregular patterns sets the stage for a challeng ing day ahead. You will not have rested enough and your body will not be in a position to perform as expected. The condition you have will therefore be worsened because you will wake up knowing that you did not have enough rest. This fuels your fear of possibly making mistakes or being unable to concentrate while at work. You become afraid of dozing at work. You continue with the thinking and see the danger of being discovered sleeping in your office. You can only imagine the worst. Losing your job.It is possible that at this point, you will call in sick, just to avoid losing your job.4. Self-consciousnessThis is when you take self-awareness to the extreme. You think too much about what you are doing, how you’re dressed, how you’re walking, talking, carrying your bag, holding your pen etc. You think that something is wrong with the way you are doing things and people are noticing. When you become self-conscious, you are likely to actually start being clumsy. This can be caused by your mind focusing much of its attention on the part of your body which you are thinking about. As a result, other parts of your body which need to be functioning simultaneously get affected. For example, you might be walking into your office and start focusing on how long your strides are.You may not properly judge the position of the stairs and end up missing a step. Your colleagues may be sorry for you and even express it. But your mind tells you how this is evidence that something is not right with you.You now have two different things troubling your mind: your walking and thoughts of what your colleagues think about it. When you finally get to your office, the only urge you have is to hide and wish you could erase the memory of what happened earlier from the minds of your colleagues.Considering that anxiety disorders exaggerate your fears, you decide not to go to the cafeteria during tea break. You don’t even go out for lunch. This only serves to pile pressure on you.Self-cons ciousness is mainly a result of a past negative experience or something that caused you shame and embarrassment in public. All the same, you can overcome self-consciousness.5. FlashbacksThese are most common with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). What feeds this disorder is the recall of the traumatic event that happened in the past.70% of Americans have experienced a traumatic event in their lives with up to 20% of them developing PTSD.Flashbacks acts like a constant reminder of the experience you had and the thought of it causes you distress. This is regardless of how long ago the event took place. After experiencing a traumatic event, the memory does not disappear. In fact, to enable you stay safe, your mind will keep a very vivid copy of that event so as to warn you of similar events. The challenge then becomes getting over the situation and knowing that it won’t happen again. To get to that point requires some work with a psychotherapist. You need to see the experience as a n unfortunate event that happened once and is not likely to happen again. An effective way of reducing the magnitude of flashbacks which are symptoms of PTSD is through Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). This type of therapy helps you work on the thoughts and emotions which fuel the flashbacks so that you keep them under control.Another equally effective therapy is the exposure therapy. In this therapy, you will be guided by your therapist on confronting your fears of the event. After the therapy, what used to trigger flashbacks is no longer a threat.6. Irrational fearsAll anxiety disorders have fear as their root cause. It is all about the fear of something bad happening. These fears communicate a threat that will interfere with your life. As such, you will automatically choose safety and avoid the situation which is a perceived threat. The fears are evidently irrational because of their exaggerated nature. There are dangers involved in going to certain places or doing certain things but your perception of these fears is out of proportion. For example, the Amazon forest has some dangerous animals. You may have seen them in documentary videos. But the problem is that you may start imagining some of those animals, especially the snakes, sneaking up on you. This is despite you living miles away from the Amazon rainforest. You can however rationalize your fears by thinking of how they easily move in search of prey.Alternatively, you may not realize this fear until when you later get an invitation to go camping. Immediately, you remember what you have seen in documentaries. You imagine the dangers posed by the animals which crawl at night and even see them attacking you while sleeping. You respond to these fears by turning down the camping invitation.7. Self-doubtAnother sign of an anxiety disorder is having self-doubt. Doubting your own judgments and abilities makes you unable to do much, if anything at all. You will not be able to make any decisions about your work, thus keep inquiring on what to do. Even when it is all in your power to act accordingly. You will also be unsure about your ability to achieve your dreams. For example, you may have thought of starting a business but are not sure whether you can make it. You may be clouded with thoughts of potential loss-making and eventually decide not to start the business.Even in the event of possible job losses, self-doubt makes you stuck in your current position. Maintaining the status quo becomes your preferred choice although you can see danger approaching. If someone offers you an opportunity to engage in business, you will still imagine the business going down. From that point, you imagine the shame you will experience after failing in business.Doubting yourself will never show you how you can build a profitable business and employ others. Instead, you will always have the negative thoughts of failing.8. PerfectionismMany people all over the world suffer from perfectionism. This is where you w ant everything you do to be perfect. There are bosses who literally drum this idea into the minds of their employees. But a pursuit of perfection is actually one in futility because perfection can never be achieved. This is because the state of affairs will always be changing. What is perfect now may not be prefect in the next hour. For you however, perfection is a dream you constantly chase, determined to catch. Despite not having registered any success so far, you feel a strong urge to continue pursuing it. This keeps you in a cycle of potential stress as you seek to achieve it.Failing to achieve perfection sets the ground for anxious thoughts and self-criticism which lead you to condemnation. Seeing that you are unable to do things perfectly, you start doubting your abilities.Perfectionism can also affect your performance in other ways. For example, it may make you take longer than necessary to make a decision. This is because you are striving to make a perfect decision. The good new s is that just like other tendencies, you can stop the effects of perfectionism by making some changes. You can do a great job, not a perfect one.If left unchecked, perfectionism can greatly affect your work as well as other aspects of your life. It can negatively impact your relationships because you may come across as someone who is expecting too much of others.9. Stage frightMany people admire those who confidently walk to a stage and in front of many people, successfully deliver a speech and the audience celebrates them. You probably have desired being able to do that but cannot bring yourself to even try it.Perhaps you tried once but it didn’t work out well. This may be what formed your basis of glossophobia.Your fear of public speaking makes you see the audience in one of three perspectives. First, as a distraction which makes you forget your speech and confuses you.Secondly, as a judge of your performance. You become alive to the fact that no matter how well you perform, th e audience may just think otherwise.Thirdly, the perspective you most possibly hold, is that the audience is a determiner of your social standing. This is where the biggest fear lies. You fear being labeled not good enough. This fear is likely to make you conclude that indeed you are not good enough. And the possible reasoning? If you were good enough, would you be experiencing stage fright?Unknown to you, many successful public speakers experience stage fright. The only difference is that they have learned how to overcome it.Being unable to comfortably express yourself makes it impossible, or at least extremely difficult, for your talents to be recognized. You may be having a rare skill but since you cannot voice it, no-one notices it.With your fear of speaking to people, you may even deliberately avoid utilizing your skill so as to avoid being recognized and subsequently asked to talk about it. This denies you and your company or business the opportunity to grow despite the potenti al within. If you can understand how stage fright happens, then you will be able to keep the fear at bay. Watch the below video for some insights. 10. Muscle tensionProblems with your mental health will always be felt in other parts of your body. The simple explanation of this is that your mind controls what happens in your whole body. When you have an anxiety disorder, your muscles tense more often than not. Although muscle tension can occur whenever you have stress, it normally goes away naturally with stress relief. But not for you.Muscle tension is a direct result of the stressful situations you perceive due to anxiety. When stressed, your body becomes ready for flight or fight. Your muscles contract to help you respond to threats accordingly. But there being no real threat in the case of anxiety, stress hormones remain high in your body. The more they are around or being often produced, the more you keep experiencing muscle tension.11. Constant nervousnessA clear and easy-to-detec t sign of anxiety is constant nervousness. When you find that you are often distressed and nervous at the thought of doing most things, then you probably have an anxiety disorder. The most important thing to understand about nervousness is that your subconscious mind is telling you that you are in danger. You may not even identify the real danger but you feel it is out there.Nervousness is normal and it happens in many instances. Be it a first date, a job interview, the final stage of a competition, everywhere. As powerful and influential as your subconscious mind is, it’s not designed to run your life entirely. In a normal situation, both the conscious and subconscious parts of your mind communicate to give you the best results. The subconscious knows when to take over and the conscious will allow it. But when one keeps overruling the other, then there is bound to be chaos. With anxiety disorders, the subconscious often overrules (unknowingly) the conscious by sensing real dangers w hen they are really small threats which the conscious should handle. Your stress response system kicks in and this keeps you in a perpetual state of “needing to act” so as to ensure safety.Nervousness can be handled. You just have to be willing to face it.12. RestlessnessAnxiety will always rob you of your peace. When others are relaxing and having a chat, you will always have something troubling your mind. You will always have a problem to think about. A solution to come up with so as to stay safe from an impending threat. You may need to move around in an effort to relax your mind by making it think of other things. You will be overwhelmed by the amount of work being done by your mind. You have feelings of being on edge and at the same time, might also become irritable.Restlessness may also make it difficult to accomplish tasks as you lose concentration due to the many thoughts you have in your mind. You may also feel cramps in your arms or legs whenever you are lying down or se ated. These prompt you to move.Another symptom of restlessness is tapping your feet or hands and being easily distracted. You will also have a problem organizing things at home or your office and struggle managing time.TREATMENTAnxiety disorders are treatable. All you have to do is seek professional medical help. Your lifestyle also determines how fast you get relief from the disorder. If you suffer from other conditions, treatment can also take longer than expected.Be open with your doctor and discuss every concern you have, including the cost of treatment. Stop Burdening Small Businesses - 938 Words

Stop Burdening Small Businesses As the foundation of the U.S. economy, small businesses employ 50 percent of the U.S. population. In 2010 the U.S. Census reported 27.9 million small businesses categorized by size (20-499 employees). Accounting for 64 percent of the net new jobs created between 1993 and 2011 and since the recent recession, from mid-2009 to 2011, small firms accounted for 67 percent of the net new jobs (Employment Statistics | SBA.gov, 2014). Unfortunately, rising costs and inefficient economic policy threaten the basic building block of our economy. This ordinance further compounds the economy’s sluggish recovery. Repelling this ordinance is the first step towards removing unnecessary financial burdens. Rising Costs The cost of operating a small business is at an all time high. Squeezed from every angle the biggest contributor of jobs and wages is forced to contain hiring, offer lower wages, and reduce benefits. At the core, increases in oil, commodities, and utilities force small businesses to absorb cost while simultaneously passing marginal price increases to consumers. Although marginal, the price increases hurt the consumer and producer. Producers fail to adequately cover cost and consumers still cannot afford the product or service. This ebb and flow contributes to a sluggish, stagnant economy attempting to recover. Rising Core Costs and Impact Oil: Riding on the tails of the Arab Spring the price of oil remains high. Significance Of Frontier In American History Essays -

Significance Of Frontier In American History The expansion of the American frontier played a large part in the history and making of the United States, but how big was that role? Historian Frederick Turner felt that the American frontier played the largest influence on our country's history. Turner also believes that America as a country died over 100 years ago as published in "The Significance of the Frontier in American History". Turner felt that when the frontier was gone, America was as well. He also drew many factors to the rapid disappearance of the frontier and a larger step for independence and individual rights in America: 1.) The frontier gave Americans a new beginning. They were able to start a new life in a new place. It also allowed many of them to erase their pasts and start with a clean slate. 2.) America was a rapidly growing country and needed more room for all of its energy. The timing of the expansion was impeccable to the growth of America. 3.) Expansion made America independent in many ways. A largely visible way was lessening its dependence on Europe for goods and supplies. As a vast population of America moved west, European countries had a more difficult time delivering its goods and supplies to the Pioneers. These points make Turner's beliefs well received. Much of the information that Turner included was so obvious once it was said; yet it never would have caught my attention if I were to sit down and think of reasons for the American frontier playing a significant role in history. I found the most intriguing of Turner's points to be that Americans did not shape the land, the land shaped Americans. This is something that most people would not like to hear because in a sense it is telling them that they are not in control of their own life. Turner proved this point by acknowledging how when the Americans moved westward, they adapted the native ways that worked best for the region. This shows that the Americans let the land show them how to live rather then make the land adjust to their lifestyle. Turner is claiming that the American expansion from the frontier was one of the largest impacts in the history of America. Although expansion of America plays a huge role in establishing it as a country, I feel that Turner, at times, overemphasizes its importance. Events such as the Civil War, civil rights movement and the Revolutionary War played a much larger role in shaping America then the expansion. Another lingering problem that I have is that this article was written over 100 years ago, and quite frankly, things have changed. Besides over-emphasizing the importance of the frontier in American history, Turner also feels that it deteriorated the American government because of a strong demand put on individualism. This is due to the fact that the article is over 100 years old. Now, America is based on individualism. The country as a whole thrives on it. People all over the world desire the kind of personal freedom and expression that Americans have. In defense of Turner, the world was a different place 100 years ago and people felt differently about many things, personal expression was one of them. In closing, Turner's view of how America was formed was a welcome change of pace. It's not everyday that something this unique is brought to my attention. His points are well made, and given the time difference, most of them would hold true today, Bibliography Turner, Frederick Jackson. "The Significance of the Frontier in American History." How Should You Spend the Night Before the ACT

How Should You Spend the Night Before the ACT SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Planning the night before the test is the last thing you really have to worry about before taking the ACT. But how do you know what to do so that you get the best score possible the next day? This comprehensive guide will lay out everything you should (and shouldn’t) do before you head to bed the night before the ACT. Follow these tips - covering everything from logistical concerns to last-minute exam prep - to wake up confident, refreshed, and ready. Let’s get started! Take Care of the Small (But Important) Details If you square away all of these small logistical concerns the night before the ACT, you’ll cut down on stress and worry the next morning. Logistical Details to Take Care of the Night Before the ACT Print your admission ticket. This ticket has important details printed on it - you also won't be able to take the test without it. Know what time the test is and when you need to be there - standard check-in time is 8 am. If you’re late, you won’t be allowed to take the exam.Plan on getting there 15-20 minutes early so that you won’t be rushed (or late) if anything happens in the morning, like unexpected traffic. Know where the test is, how to get there, and how long it’ll take you to get there. You can double-check the location on your admission ticket or at your ACT Account. Try usingGoogle Mapsto plan out the fastest route. Enter your arrive-by time for the next morning in addition to the testing center address and your starting point - Google Maps will tell you when to leave! Have a wake-up plan, especially if you're prone to oversleeping.Set multiple alarms, giving yourself an extra cushion of time (10-15 minutes) to get ready.Plan on having a family member wake you up as a backup plan. Set out all your outfit for the next morning. Choose something you’d be comfortable sitting around in for several hours. Layers are a good idea, in case the testing room is warmer or colder than ideal. Organize everything you need to bring for the test. There are only a few items you have to bring, but there are several other items that would be smart to have for the test: Mandatory: Your admission ticket Mandatory: Photo ID Mandatory: Several sharpened #2 pencils Good quality erasers An approved calculator + extra batteries A watch (without an audible alarm) A bottle of water and snacks to eat during breaks. Officially, you won’t be able to eat or drink in the testing room, but you should have access to food + water during breaks. Plan on leaving forbidden items at home.If you bring any forbidden items, you could jeopardize your scores. Here’s a list of items you should leave at home: Any electronic device aside from your calculator and watch (no smart watches, obviously) Anything with an alarm Any writing utensils or tools aside from your #2 pencils Any pamphlets or papers Dictionaries or other books You can find more info on prohibited behavior here- basically, just listen to directions and be polite and you'll be fine A note about cell phones: If you don’t have to bring it, then don’t. If you do choose to bring your phone, make sure it’s turned off and out of reach during the test and during breaks. If it goes off at any point - even if it’s an innocent alarm - all of your scores will be canceled. Have a Plan for Self-Care I think that the best thing you can do before the ACT is to make sure you’re relaxed, well-rested, and well-fed. Even if you prepare really well for the exam, you won’t do very well if you’re stressed, tired, or hungry. Here, I’ll go over the things you should and shouldn’t do the night before to make sure you’re in the best possible shape the next morning. Things You Should Do Eat a satisfying and healthy dinner -ideally something with produce, fruits/vegetables, and whole grains. Your brain needs fuel! On that note, plan your breakfast for the next morning.Something quick, easy, and filling should do the trick, like whole-grain cereal or a bowl of oatmeal. Get to bed earlier than usual - maybe 30-60 minutes prior to your normal bedtime. This gives you a bit more time to fall asleep if you're having trouble. Take a shower to save time the next morning. This may also help you relax and get to sleep. If your normal routine is to shower in the morning, though, then skip this step. Still having trouble falling asleep? Here are some things you can try: Gentle stretches (no cardio!) Listening to relaxing music A warm bath Caffeine-free tea (chamomile is always a good choice) You can't go wrong with a cup of tea if you need to wind down and relax. Things To Avoid Disrupting your regular routine. Our normal bedtime rituals help prepare us to fall asleep - try not to deviate too much from what you’d normally do. Playing video games, texting, or surfing the internet.Staring at screens for fewhours before you head to bed can keep you up longer than you’d like. Taking any sleep aids. Unless sleep medications are part of your normal bedtime routine, avoid them. They can make it really difficult to wake up the next morning, and you don’t know if you’ll have other adverse reactions. Prepare for the ACT You might be feeling pressure to cram as much info as you can into your brain the night before the test. You want to make sure you remember as much stuff as possible, right? Well, stressful cramming might do more harm than good. The ACT isn’t a test where memorizing factoids will help you perform better - the best preparation strategy is a long-term one. Ultimately, there are a couple of ways you could â€Å"prep† for the ACT the night before the test without stressing yourself out. Here are your options: Strategy #1: Don't Prepare at All If you feel well-prepared for the ACT - or even if you don’t - there's not much you can do toprocessimportant, helpful information the night before the test. Good ACT prep happens through long-term practice, not short-term cramming. Last-minute prep for any test tends to stress me out, so I avoid it. If you feel the same way, this is probably the strategy for you. Strategy #2:Briefly Review Key Concepts or Problems Some students might get nervous if they’re missing out on time to review tricky concepts or practice problems. It would be silly to actively avoid ACT preparation if this would stress you out more than flipping through your study materials. The best way to approach Strategy #2 is to work through a few practice problems on paper (remember, stay away from screens). You don’t want to pick particularly difficult problems - we’re trying to avoid stress - but reviewing problems that’ll help you start thinking through weaker skill areas may help ease some of your anxiety. Putting Your Best Foot Forward: The Morning of the ACT No matter what you ended up doing the night before, there are a few things you can do the morning of the ACT to make sure you do as well as possible. Here are the most important steps you can take to ensure success: Eat breakfast.Hopefully, you’ve planned one the night before, but if not, make sure to grab something on the way out the door. Avoid caffeine, unless you usually have caffeine in the mornings. It’ll make you more jittery and anxious than awake and alert. Caffeine also acts as a diuretic, which means more bathroom breaks for you during the ACT - this could lead to less time available to work on the test. Take the test one step at a time. Once a section is over, it’s over - your only responsibility is to the section you’re currently working on. Try not to let concerns about earlier sections of the ACT affect your performance. Treat yourself! Taking the ACT is stressful and exhausting. Plan on doing something nice for yourself - like getting lunch with a friend, going for a nice run, or even watching episodes of your favorite TV show - after you’re finished with the test. No matter how you feel about how the test went, remember that you followed through on a really important commitment - that’s a big deal! If this is the first time you take the ACT, and you plan on taking the test a second time, this first test will serve as a really important learning experience. Good luck, and (who knows), maybe even have fun! Think of the ACT as a marathon, not a sprint. What's Next? You know now what to do the night before the ACT, but what aboutbefore that? Don't worry - we've got you covered. You'll want to start off by checking out our last-minute tips and strategies for taking the ACT. Philosophy Of Films Ransom 1996 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Philosophy Of Films Ransom 1996 - Essay Example Ransom movie has incorporated on camera's unique clarity of detail hence assisting the film to depict the whole scene as a mirror of physical facts instead of generating an art that will serve to profit man’s reminiscence of events. The second domineering philosophy in the film is one that touches on cognitive psychology as it helps us to elucidate on the individual emotions as the scene unfolds. The peak emotional scene is depicted where Shaker called Kate and Tom and asked them to pay the ransom n while at the same time he lets them overhear Sean crying for his parents. This, deceptively, mentally and psychologically disturbs the parents forcing them to reconsider their plans for saving their innocent son. The background cry of the Sean will activate the audience assumption of the relevant character hence resulting in the entertaining of their cognitive as the audience goes through some emotional changes. Therefore, it was through shot composition and soundtrack that were ab le to determine the emotional scenes that will uniformly affect the audience all-inclusive (Gordon, 1987). Particularly deontological perspective, Shaker’s act of kidnapping Sean and shooting his associates in the kidnap plan, is sadistic and/or punitive torture that is unjustifiable (Gregory, 2013). While utilitarianisms may justify the act of killing his colleagues as it leads to a greater good in the form of Sean being saved, the act of kidnapping the boy was in per se unwarrantable, a factor that made it moral for Hawkins and Tom to kill Shaker (Gregory, 2013).

(SHIISM AND SUNNISM) Compare and contrast the authority of the Sunni Essay

(SHIISM AND SUNNISM) Compare and contrast the authority of the Sunni CALIPH and the Shii IMAM in their respective communities - Essay Example (632 A.D) in respect of his real successor. The followers of Islam explicitly split after the Battle of Karbala (AP/HUMA 289-90), where Hussain Ben Ali and his companions and family members were brutally martyred, and the House of the Holy Prophet was plundered by the cruel Umayyad ruler yazid. The paper looks for comparing and contrasting the authority acclaimed by the two, which has been constructed in an absolutely different way and maintaining completely divergent approaches in their nature and scope. The Sunni caliphs, according to the Sunni doctrine, are elected by consensus of community called ijma, in the light of which the first caliph Abu Bakr was elected; whereas the Shiite claim that the imams are appointed from Almighty Lord and explicit designation made by his predecessor through the statutes of holy sayings or statements called nass from the House of the Prophet; it is therefore Hazrat Ummey Salma was not included under the mantle, and only the progeny of Ali and Fatim a was entitled to be the members of the House of the Holy Prophet (AP/HUMA 297). In order to illustrate these differences in authorities, 1) the paper will discuss the issues of succession to the Prophet; 2) the election of caliphs as political elected leader and the imam as divinely guided leader, 3) and lastly, the scope of their religious knowledge. The succession of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) serves as one of the most contradictory issues of Islamic history, which has divided its followers into two major sects. Hence, like its predecessor Abrahamic faiths, i.e. Judaism and Christianity, Islam has also witnessed division of its followers into groups and factions in the name of religion. The majority Sunni sect of Muslims, views the four righteous caliphs as the successors of the Holy Prophet, which appeared at the helm of the governmental affairs turn by turn after the departure of the Holy Prophet from the world. On the contrary, the Shiite

The Local Tourism Industry In Botswana Tourism Essay

The Local Tourism Industry In Botswana Tourism Essay 1.0 INTRODUCTION 1.1 BACKGROUND TO RESEARCH Botswana is a relatively small country located in Southern Africa, sandwiched between South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. A landlocked country, however what it lacks in coastline, it more than makes up for in tourist attractions that have pulled in visitors from across the world. Known mostly for the Okavango Delta, the Kalahari Desert and its Bushmen, and the numerous wildlife sanctuaries and parks that are a host to numerous endangered species. With a population of approximately 1.8 million people, mostly Setswana speaking, it has enjoyed 40 years of independence and gained its reputation as one of the fastest developing nations since, transforming itself from one of the poorest in the world, to a middle economy country. These great achievements have propelled Botswana into recognition as one of the most politically and economically stable in Africa. For a long time, Botswanas economy has been heavily dependent on the mining industry, boasting over 75% of the countrys export earnings. Although the country is also rich in copper, nickel and gold, diamonds are the most profitable. They were first discovered in the late 1960s, and since, the industry has flourished and established itself as the worlds largest producer of gem-quality diamonds. This industry is in no doubt responsible for assisting in and facilitating the speedy development of the country. Other key sectors include the agricultural industry (exporting quality beef), textile and livestock industries, exporting quality beef. One of the most important objectives of government policy towards achieving its Vision 2016 is the diversification of the economy away from dependence on the mining sector. In recent years, the growing tourism industry has proven itself as a significant contributor to the countrys Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and economic growth. With the countrys competitive advantage of its vast natural resources and offerings, it is automatically put it in a position where it can prosper not just regionally, but internationally as well. This growth and prosperity can be attributed to initiatives taken by the government in order to boost and improve the industry. Various strategies and policies have been implemented to try and spur private investment. It has initiated campaigns for the development and improvement of the facilities in the National and wildlife parks in order to preserve the environment and its ecosystems. Foreign investment is encouraged, although only if those wishing to do so conduct joint ventures with the citizens, to promote their involvement in the development of the industry. They introduced a policy which allowed both foreign and local investors in tourism, among other selected sectors, to receive grants from the Government, clearly gave a boost to investment in tourism All these developments have led to an increase in international visitors which in turn has led to an increase in the need for accommodation, and therefore an increase in the building of hotels and lodges. Extracted from FDI AND TOURISM: THE DEVELOPMENT DIMENSION, EAST AND SOUTHERN AFRICA. A United Nations Case Study 2003 The hotels that have been established are both locally and internationally owned, however research reveals that ownership is dominated by international companies and individuals. The most popular of these hotels are; Sun International (a South African franchise), Cresta Hotels (another South African franchise belonging to the TA Group), The Grand Palm and Mondior Summit (a member of the South African Mondior Company). In an ideal environment, it would have been the other way around, with industrial control fully domestic instead of dependent on foreign aid. The drawbacks of having an unbalanced ownership scale (or one that is not heavily domestic) in the tourism industry, include loosing vital revenues collected to foreigners and the inability of complete revenue maximization by the government and the citizens. The presence of these multinational hotel chains is evidence that the initiatives taken by the government to boost the industry are effective. However, only to a limited extent because in order for the industry to survive, they have to allow foreign investors to participate but this is pushing the industry into the hands of these foreigners and away from those who can benefit from it the most; the citizens. With this proposal, I intend to find out if there is a relationship between the large internationally owned hotels and lodges and the significantly smaller locally owned ones. 1.2 RESEARCH PROBLEM The tourism industry in Botswana is still in its growth phase, with government programs dedicated to the upgrading and development of the areas that attract most tourists. The hotel industry is one that has seen considerable growth in relation to the governments policy. In order to help expand this industry, the government has favored foreign investment and made it easier for foreigners to invest on a long term basis with political and economic stability providing an ideal investment climate. As a result, the hospitality and accommodation sectors have seen numerous international hotels, lodges and hotel chains set up around the country. Although significant for a maturing industry, the abundance of internationally owned and operated establishments signals an inequality in the ownership when compared to the locally operated establishments. The industry is dominated by foreign proprietors and it seems they are overpowering local entrepreneurship. The irony of the situation is that in order for tourists to experience the genuine Setswana environment, they would have to place themselves in an atmosphere that would reflect the true Setswana lifestyle, and that is more than often found in a locally owned establishment. The success of these international hotels is testament to numerous situations, such as: the local hotels arent performing to meet the standards of the tourists Most of the internationally operated hotels around Botswana can be classified as 5star, and for the economically well-off visitor, luxury and comfort may play a larger role than experiencing the Setswana lifestyle in choosing where to stay. There is also a level of quality that can be expected when dealing with an internationally established and world renowned hotel that may cause visitors to automatically opt for it instead of trying out a local hotel. This is not to suggest that the local hotels are not up to par, but the unfortunately the reputation of an international hotel, far exceeds that of a local one. the tourists are not aware of their services As more and more of the world business is turning electronic, i.e over the internet, more and more tourists rely on the internet to inform them on where to stay, and the use of the travel agent as an intermediary between the hotel and the tourist is slowly becoming obsolete. It has taken a little bit longer for some businesses to realize the importance of the internet as a marketing tool, and its ability to help them reach out to potential customers. Many hotels have not yet come to this realization and it is this way that they missing out on opportunities by failing to expose themselves to a wider audience. Advertising plays an important role in determining the success or failure of a company and if it fails to run an effective marketing scheme then it will receive limited responses. Either of these situations results in loss of revenue for the local hospitality and accommodation sector and all those involved. These consequences have a long term domino effect, where one situation triggers the other, or one situation is the direct or indirect consequence of another. Such as: Managerial positions are dominated by foreigners The only posts reserved for locals are those with lower salaries General failure of the industry to contribute to the development of the local community and the eradication of poverty. 1.2.1 PROBLEM STATEMENT The local tourism market in Botswana is saturated by large foreign owned hotels and this is pushing the locally owned ones into the background. 1.2.2 RESEARCH QUESTION The purpose of this research proposal is to answer the question: What is the impact of the international hotel giants on the local accommodation and hospitality market? My intention is conduct a qualitative study by interviewing local entrepreneurs to get an in-depth and personal opinion on the role that these hotel giants play in the industry. RESEARCH OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to assess the impact that international hotel franchises have on the local hospitality and accommodation market in Botswana. This study can be broken down into categories that when concluded, should give a clear understanding of the above mentioned issue. To recognize the relationship between the abundance of the internationally operated hotels and lodges and the scarcity of locally owned ones. To determine the impact that these international giants on the local hotels. To examine the repercussions that the international hotel chains have on the local tourism industry. To develop research in this area in order to recognize how the current situation can be overcome. 1.4 JUSTIFICATION OF RESEARCH The reason I have chosen this particular topic is because the tourism industry in Botswana is rapidly becoming a vital contributor to the countrys GDP, as the need for economic diversification away from the mining industry becomes more urgent. As a vital part of the economy, it is important that the public be aware of all aspects that contribute to its growth. By creating public awareness on how the local market is influenced by these foreign giants, it is my hope that they will take initiatives to be more supportive and more participative in the industry. Another reason for pursuing this topic is because research previously conducted has been limited and non specific, . . . à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦ . RESEARCH METHODOLOGY The primary purpose of this research is to find out if and how the local entrepreneurs business has been affected by the international hotel chains. What I want find out is the experience, opinion and feelings of these entrepreneurs towards these hotels. The best way to collect this data would be through conducting an interview, specifically a structured interview. I chose this method because: It allows for me to investigate the thoughts, views, assumption, feelings, attitudes and perceptions of the interviewee which cannot be provided by any other method of data collection. It allows me to ask more complex questions and also the ability to validate the data as I collect it, which improves the overall quality of the data. Due to geographic constraints, my interviews are going to have to be conducted over the phone. The advantages of telephone interview include: More freedom for the interviewee because they are not under pressure from a face-to-face scenario, therefore the interviewee feels more comfortable. This also means that their responses will be more honest and open. SAMPLE SIZE I intend to interview a total of ten local businesses located all around the country, in order to determine whether it is a national or just localized phenomenon. I want to find out the opinion of the businessman and woman in all tourist attractions around Botswana to establish whether their view is universal. PROJECT OUTLINE Chapter 1 Introduction This starts with a brief description of Botswanas economic history and the contribution that the tourism industry is making towards it. The Research Problem describes how the introduction of International hotels signifies the growth of the industry but that may be at the expense of the local entrepreneurs. Therefore it is my responsibility with this project to find out exactly how these hotels have affected local businesses and to achieve this, I will conduct interview with ten of these businessmen and women. Chapter 2 Literature Review The exploration and analysis of secondary data procured over the internet. I will study journals related to or contributing to the topic, in order to find out the significance of my research. Chapter 3 Research Framework This is an in-depth analysis of the method of data collection, sample sizes and distribution in order to inform the reader on every step of primary data collection process. 1.7 DELIMITATIONS OF SCOPE The scope of this research is limited to local entrepreneurs in the accommodation and hospitality industry in Botswana, although only those involved in the operation of hotels, lodges or guest houses. The aim of this research is to solicit their opinion on the effect that the international hotel giants have on their businesses with the assumption is that they have all been affected either in a good or bad way by the success of these international hotels. This research will provide an analytical view of how these local businesses are doing in comparison to the hotels, and this information will be useful to these entrepreneurs in trying to improve the current situation. CHAPTER SUMMARY This chapter is an introductory chapter that starts off by describing the economic history of Botswana and the influence that the tourism industry has had. The main issue revolves around how this industry has seen the establishment of international hotels and what role these hotels play on the local hospitality and accommodation market. The research questions outline what type of information Im trying to solicit and the choice of data collection most suitable for that is through conducting interviews. http://www.bidpa.bw/docs/archive/Economic%20Diversification/TheTourismSector.pdf http://botswana.usembassy.gov/resources/commercial-section/tourism-and-investment.html

Segregation: Martin Luther King

In the early 1900s America was torn apart in a battle known as segregation. The African American race was treated unjustly and faced a tough journey. They were shoved aside and torn apart from the Caucasian Americans. There was separate railroad cars, schools, and even to such small insignificant things as separate water fountains. The white children were being taught to treat African Americans as dirty people who deserved to be separate. It created a prejudice that would take years to overcome, to completely be unselfish again. Caucasian Americans were very wrong in their thinking and they never thought about how it made African Americans feel. The African Americans of this time period were struggling to overcome this new time where they were treated as outsiders, as if they were not a part of the American people. Every single human being is uniquely different and segregation was a constant battle our fellow Americans fought to overcome, all for the sole purpose of gaining equality. There were Caucasian people who thought segregation was a good thing and supported it strongly. They didn’t think there was anything wrong with separate facilities and they didn’t even wonder about how African Americans lives were affected by this injustice. African Americans rights were basically stripped away all because they were viewed as â€Å"different. † A Florida congressman, Frank Clark, was open about his views on segregation. He truly believed segregation was a great thing and he supported this belief. When talking about the railroad cars he explains that it is good to have separate ones. He blames the conditions of the cars on the African Americans. He states to â€Å"imagine a nice, new passenger coach, packed with dirty, greasy, filthy negroes, down South in midsummer, and you can readily understand why that car does not long remain as good, as clean, and a as desirable as a similar car occupied exclusively by white travelers† (Frank Clark praises segregation 37). In this statement he was expressing his true beliefs. He also said that â€Å"if God Almighty had intended these two races to be equal, He would have so created them† (Frank Clark praises segregation 37). Frank Clark was a very firm believer in the Social Darwinism theory. He believed that white men were better because God created them that way. He was very prejudiced in his way of viewing the human races, as if whites were superior. Another person who supported segregation was George Wallace, a governor of Alabama. During his inauguration speech, he says that â€Å"in the name of the greatest people that have ever trod this earth, I draw the line in the dust and toss the gauntlet before the feet of tyranny and I say: segregation today, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever† (George C. Wallace, Inaugural Address as governor of Alabama 120). He wanted the Southerners to fight for segregation. He wanted them to vote and to defend â€Å"their† homeland. Wallace said that he was helping every person in the state, but in all actuality he was supporting whites only. Not as openly as some, but definitely in favor of segregation. He wanted the Southerners to be the most powerful, the Caucasian Southerners. Segregation was a very powerful movement that had everyone in an uproar. Although some saw segregation as a good thing, many others fought for their freedom wholeheartedly. For this reason, the â€Å"Separate but Equal† case eventually became overthrown. Those who fought for freedom slowly made progress. W.  E. B Du Bois, a leading African American of this time, stood up for the rights they were being robbed of. He didn’t believe Booker T. Washington was dealing with civil rights in the best way possible. Talking about the African American race, he states that â€Å"-we must unceasingly and firmly oppose them. By every civilized and peaceful method we must strive for the rights which the world accords to men, clinging unwaveringly to those great words which the sons of the Fathers would fain forget ‘We hold these truths to be self evident: That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (W.  E. B Du Bois, â€Å"Of Mr. Booker T. Washington 33). He believed there were ignoring the fact that the stands there were already taking and the movements that had created were not working. He believed they needed to take a better stand to end segregation. Another supporter of ending segregation was pro-baseball player Jackie Robinson. He wrote a letter to President Eisenhower so that he could explain what it was like living in America this way. He wanted the president to understand what they were doing to the African American race. Robinson explains that the African Americans have been patient for too long and it was time for the country to change. He wanted the president to give them the rights they were entitled to have as Americans. He challenged the President to find a way to give them back their freedom and treat them equally. (Letter From Jackie Robinson to President Eisenhower 103). During this time period, one of the most famous speeches of all time was given. Martin Luther King’s, â€Å"I Have a Dream Speech† rocked the nation to its core. He wanted to completely end segregation and create a nation that was equal. He believed that civil rights advocates should not use violence to get this freedom, but to do it in a way that showed American the true souls of the African American people. He dreamed of a day when the nation would treat everyone equally, he dreamed of a time when whites and former slaves could share a table and meal, he dreamed of Mississippi becoming a state of freedom and justice instead of oppression. Martin Luther King had a dream that children would not be judged by their skin but by who they were as individuals. He had a dream that one day we could all sing together â€Å"My country ‘tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing. Land where my fathers died, land of the Pilgrim’s pride, from every mountainside, let freedom ring! † (Martin Luther King, I have a Dream Speech 122). This was the most influential speech of all and many people took it to heart. All of these different people fought to end segregation. Segregation was a true raging enemy in the eyes of African Americans. They wanted the freedom that was promised to all American and they fought hard to gain that freedom. Many speeches, many movements and many humiliating experiences got them closer and closer to achieving their goal. Finally the Supreme Court declared segregation in public schools to be unconstitutional under the 14th Amendment. This was the first progress African Americans had seen in a long time. They deserved to be treated equally. America would not be America if people were not all equally free. Freedom holds this country together, as it has for all of the years past. Segregation was a battle fought for years, but in the end was worth it for every race, ethnicity, and even religious person could have equality.
